REAL-TIME ULTRASOUND Research has highlighted that after acute low back pain the spine is left very vulnerable to injury due to inhibition and weakness of the core stabilizers of the spine. This weakness remains, if untreated, even after the pain has been relieved and normal function returned. This means that there is a very high incidents of recurrent low back pain with 86% of back pain recurring within twelve months. This rate reduces to around 30 % after specific core stability training. The use of Real-time Ultrasound as a biofeedback tool to view the muscles in question, and thereby be able to learn how to use them correctly, is a relatively new use of modern technology. Imagine being able to actually see the muscles that you want to contract and the confidence that this gives you knowing that what you are doing is correct. This method of treatment is evidence based with many articles being published in eminent medical journals around the world.
